Ladies Doubles Boxes

Thank you to the many ladies who signed up for the Doubles Boxes. The primary objective of the boxes is to encourage players to have regular competitive games. The second objective is to help with team selection. However, box results are only one consideration in selecting teams. Past league performance and club championship results are also very important.

The first rotation of doubles boxes is now live and must be played by December 31st 2025.

The boxes work as follows:

  • Each box consists of 5 pairs.
  • There is no particular ranking within the individual boxes themselves and we have put people together as best we can into boxes of similar levels to ensure good games. They will automatically rank once games are played and results are entered.
  • Each pair must play every other pair in their box before the cutoff date. The cut off date for this round of box matches is December 31st 2025. Do not leave them all to the last minute. If you don’t play you don’t get points and could be relegated.
  • The winners of each match will be awarded points based on the number of sets they win. (E.g 2:0 = 2 points to the winner 0 points to the loser.  2:1 is 2 points to the winner and 1 point to the loser. )
  • When all matches are played, the first two pairs in the box will be promoted to the box above and the last two pairs will be demoted to the box below.
  • If 2 players are on the same points the system will rank them based on their head to head result i.e. who won the match between them.
  • If a pair is not available to play a match after reasonable attempts by their opponents to schedule the match, the pair should award a walkover to their opponents and the opponents will earn 2 points.
  • Matches shall be best of 3 sets with the 3rd set being a championship tie-break which is up to 10. Games will be played as normal, with deuce and advantage scoring for the first 2 sets. Also, the first 2 sets have a normal tie-break to 7 at 6 games all.
  • Matches must be completed for the results to be entered. If for some reason you do not get to finish your match in the booked time, you will have to organise to finish the match at a later time convenient to all players.
  • Our aim is to have results  in the box league reflected on the doubles ladder. The ladder will be updated with the box results on a weekly basis. Double pairs are still welcome to challenge on the ladder as usual.
  • Winners of the match are responsible for entering the results on Club Manager. You navigate to Box Leagues on the top toolbar and click on Results and Tables. Here you will be able to enter the results for your box matches.
Box League Results
1. Select Ladies Doubles Box Leagues and GLTC Womens Box League
2. Click on Enter Result next to your match
3. If match played, click on 1st dropdown and select result (in sets)
4. If match not played, click on 2nd dropdown and select reason
5. Enter score of each set in games. 3rd set should be entered as 7-6 or 6-7. Press Submit
  • When entering the score, the winner’s score is on the left. Even if the winners are the second pair, their score is selected first.
    For example 7-5 4-6 10-8.
  • Players may change partners after each rotation if they wish.
  • Players may take a break from boxes if they are injured or otherwise unavailable, and may be reinstated at an appropriate level in a future rotation.
  • Please get in contact with members of your box as quickly as possible once a round commences. We will endeavour to avoid extensions of a round unless there are extenuating circumstances.
  • It is useful to set up a WhatsApp group with the other members of your box when you have courts booked and your availability is known.

FAQ

What happens if we are unable to play our game?

In the case where a game cannot be played, there are five possible outcomes that can be entered into Club Manager:

  • Match Abandoned: If a match is abandoned due to external factors like weather, it will typically be suspended and resumed at a later time.
  • Match Postponed: Both parties agree to postpone a match within reasonable notice to another agreed time.
  • Walkover
    • If a doubles team has offered at least 3 dates to play, and the opponent has refused to play these dates, and has not offered any alternative dates.
    • If a player is more than 15 minutes late.
    • If a match has been firmly set up but is cancelled with less than 24 hours notice.
When a  pair award a walkover to their opponents, the opponents will earn 2 match points.
  • Conceded: If a doubles team has decided to give up and accept defeat before it is officially over, the 2 match points will be awarded to the remaining doubles team.
  • Retired: If a doubles team needs to leave the match before it is finished for injury or whatever reason. The 2 match points will be awarded to the remaining doubles team.

What happens if one double pair in our box are no longer available to play but have played some of the box?

In the event a doubles pair have played some of their matches and for whatever reason can no longer play and are requested by others in the box to play, the pair should award a walkover to their opponents. The opponents will earn 2 match points as a result of the walkover.  You must request a match in order to be awarded a walkover and enter the result in ClubManager as a walkover. If no action is taken, it will be deemed as “not played” with no points awarded to either pair.

Is it fair if a pair in our box are no longer available to play but have played some of the box and therefore some pairs have had the opportunity to have their game and others have not?

It is always a possibility that at any point someone in your box may no longer be available to play whether it be due to injury, family circumstances, etc. Matches previously played by the pair who are no longer available to play will still stand. If others request matches with the pair after they become unavailable, they will have to grant their opponents a walkover as they are no longer able to play.

What happens if one pair in our box are no longer available to play but have not played any of their box matches?

In the event a pair have not played any of their matches and for whatever reason one of the pair can no longer play, it is possible for the other player to find a new partner. If this happens, you must send the request to the ladder administrator to approve and update the new pairing.

How do I enter the sub scores?

You enter the scores per the result and always enter them with the winner score first. So for example, if the results was 6-2, 6-3 you enter it in that format. You do not have to worry about aligning the score to Player 1 or Player 2 in the result. By entering the match result and the score in this way, the system will know how to allocate the games.  If it went to 3 sets and the last set was a tie break, you would enter it 6-2, 4-6, 10-7.  Always enter the results by putting the winners scores first.

Just as a reminder, matches shall be best of 3 sets with the 3rd set being a championship tie-break which is up to 10. Games will be played as normal, with deuce and advantage scoring for the first 2 sets. Also, the first 2 sets have a normal tie-break to 7 at 6 games all.

Hope you are having fun out there. Enjoy your games and if you want to play more, remember you can always challenge other doubles teams directly on the ladder!

Most importantly, we hope everyone enjoys the boxes and gets to know more people across the club.

Here’s to great rallies and good fun — enjoy your tennis!
