GLTC Ladies Win Class 2 Floodlight League

Another great win for Glenageary with the Ladies 1st team winning Class 2 of Floodlight League.

l-r: Kate Egan, Loren Fenlon (capt), Steffi Rogers, Sophie McCarthy

There was not quite the same drama as the men’s match the night before, but the Ladies 1st Team delivered a comprehensive win over Lansdowne 1 in the Class 2 final and gave their supporters a relatively stress-free evening! Lansdowne brought their A team to the contest but Glenageary’s all-round strength proved too much for them.

Kate was first off court in under an hour, having dominated her opponent in the singles to win 6-1 6-2. She was quickly followed by Sophie who won her singles match 6-4 6-1. Loren and Steffi were well in control of the 2nd set 6-7 5-2 and were happy to shake hands at that point with the two juniors having secured the victory for the team.

This is a fantastic achievement for ladies tennis in Glenageary as we now have a ladies team in Class 1 for the first time since 2011. G1 were the standout team in Class 2 for the whole competition, having dropped only 1 point in 24 matches during the campaign. Well done to subs Emma Duggan and Theresa Mayer who contributed 3 of those points along the way as well.
