Question: Why are doubles not allowed?

Answer: There is a risk that social distancing will not be adhered to and players will instinctively play normally and end up going for the same ball. It is acknowledged that the risk is small and allowing doubles as soon as possible was a key point raised by sub-committee to Tennis Ireland.

Question: When will doubles be allowed?

Answer: Tennis Ireland have not released guidance on doubles but likely to be Phase 3 or Phase 4 of the Government restrictions

Question: When will guests be allowed to play?

Answer: Since a requirement of booking through ClubManager is to ensure that the club has a record of who was on-site at any time for possible contact tracing there is no plan to allow guests in the near future. This will be under constant review.

Question: What if I forget to bring balls?

Answer: Cannot share your partners balls to serve so would suggest hitting practise rather than a match.

Question: Can players from same household share balls?

Answer: Yes, it is only required that there are different balls for each household.

Question: I live more than 5km away will I be allowed to play?

Answer: Members living more than 5km away in Phase 1 (or 20km away in Phase 2) should not come to the club as this is a non-essential journey and would be breaking the law.

Question: Why is it necessary to have Compliance Supervision at all times?

Answer: As tennis is one of the first sports to return to playing it is important that we are seen to comply with Government guidelines and the Tennis Ireland protocols, the Compliance Supervisor will be to ensure that these are adhered to. It is also expected that in the early days of opening, there will be some questions that arise when players are at the club so important that these can be resolved. Finally, there is a security concern given that the clubhouse gates will be open at all times.

Question: If I book a game against Player A on a given day, can Player A then book a court against a different player on the same day?

Answer: The club wants to make sure that everyone gets fair access to courts, so in the initial stages we will only allow a player to book one hour per day. However, should there be quiet times, we may relax this rule and allow members to book an additional game no more than 24 hours in advance, providing Compliance Supervision is covered at that time. Priority will also be given to those who volunteer to do Compliance Supervision.

Question: If my opponent cancels at the last minute can I find another player to play against?

Answer: Yes but the change must be made BEFORE you and your new partner arrive at the club. Only players who have been booked online at that time should come to the club.

Question: What do I do if my opponent cancels at the last minute and I can’t find another player?

Answer: As soon as you know that you are not able to play your match then the court booking should be deleted. This will allow others who might not have booked to play instead. We are expecting that there is a high demand for courts and will be monitoring any ‘no shows’ for a booked court.

Question: I can’t access ClubManager to make a booking, what do I do?
